Have you scrolled through Facebook recently and seen strange pictures of Jesus made out of shrimp, or bizarre log cabins that look impossible? You are not losing your mind. You are seeing what the internet now calls "AI Slop."
"Slop" is a slang term for low-quality, AI-generated junk that people flood onto social media to get clicks. Just like junk mail fills your physical mailbox, this content fills your digital feed. It is annoying, but understanding it makes it much easier to ignore.
At AIAnswered, Andrew Robbins calls this the "spam of the future." The people posting it usually don't care about art or creativity; they just want you to click "Like" so they can make a few pennies from advertisers.
How to Spot "Slop" It is usually easy to spot once you know the signs. The images often look too shiny, plastic, or weirdly perfect. The captions are often nonsense, like "Amen! Beautiful cabin!" on a picture of a house sinking into a swamp.
Why It Is Happening Social media sites like Facebook want you to stay on their app. These weird images often trick the system into thinking people love them because they get so many comments (often from other bots!). This creates a loop where more and more junk gets shown to you.
You Don't Have to Engage The best way to handle AI slop is to treat it like a telemarketer call: just hang up. Don't comment "Fake!" or click the angry face. Any reaction tells the computer, "I am interested in this!" and it will show you more. Just scroll past.
AI is wonderful for writing emails or planning trips, but like any tool, it can be misused. Don't let the junk distract you from the good stuff.
